This course is designed to provide a broad outline of some of the main areas that fall under the large umbrella of occupational safety, health and environmental management. The information included in this course is therefore of a general nature to provide persons with insight into the general principles used to establish a sound SHE programme framework.

By the end of the course, the successful learner will understand:
- the role and function of a supervisor
- the basic principles of effective communication
- the theories underlying the NOSA Five Star System
- the main components of the NOSA Five Star System
- common causes of incidents and basic prevention techniques
- the legal requirements concerning the employer’s basic duties and responsibilities
- hazards and risks associated with a workplace
- general principles of occupational health in the workplace, including the functions of OHS personnel
- environmental awareness and waste management
- basic understanding of fire management in the workplace
- an overview of management responsibility.
