Basic Fire Fighting for Retail

Learners are taught how to identify different types of fires, operate extinguishers safely, and apply correct firefighting methods. The course focuses on quick, calm, and effective responses that prevent minor flare-ups from becoming serious emergencies. It also strengthens awareness of everyday fire risks in a retail setting, promoting good habits that protect both people and property.

Course outline:

  • Fire basics: how fires start and the common types found in retail
  • Retail-specific fire hazards in stockrooms, shelves, and public areas
  • Everyday fire-prevention practices and safe housekeeping
  • Types of extinguishers and when to use each
  • How to operate an extinguisher safely (PASS method)
  • When to fight a fire and when to evacuate
  • Retail emergency procedures: raising the alarm, guiding customers, and safe evacuation
