Occupational Hygiene Certified Services

Protect your workforce and stay compliant with South Africa’s occupational hygiene regulations.

At SafetyCloud, our occupational hygiene services are delivered through Aspirata Auditing Testing and Certification (Pty) Ltd — a SANAS-accredited Occupational Hygiene Inspection Body (OH0246) and a Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL) Approved Inspection Authority (OH0246 – CI 067) for occupational hygiene.

Our goal is simple: to help you prevent occupational disease by identifying and monitoring health risks before they impact your employees.

Why Occupational Hygiene Matters

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), every employer has a legal responsibility to protect their employees from health risks in the workplace. That includes proactively identifying, measuring, and managing potential exposures to harmful agents, substances, and conditions.

The occupational hygiene process typically follows these steps:

  • Health Risk Assessment
Identify processes, activities, or agents that could lead to ill health or occupational disease.
  • Exposure Monitoring
Quantify employee exposure to identified risks through formal Occupational Hygiene Surveys.
  • Review and Control
Use results to determine compliance and implement practical workplace controls for continuous improvement.

Occupational Hygiene Surveys

A critical part of compliance, control, and continuous improvement
Occupational Hygiene Surveys are formal assessments used to evaluate worker exposure to health hazards such as noise, hazardous chemical agents, thermal stress, vibration, and ventilation. Some surveys may require the involvement of an Approved Inspection Authority (AIA), depending on legal and industry-specific requirements.

At SafetyCloud, we offer comprehensive hygiene surveys tailored to your specific industry risks and working environment, including noise, illumination, thermal stress, hazardous chemical agent exposure, and vibration.

Our surveys are conducted in line with applicable SANS standards and relevant industry guidelines or best practices. You’ll receive a detailed technical report outlining compliance status, measured exposure levels, and actionable recommendations to support continuous improvement.

When are Occupational Hygiene Surveys required?

Surveys may be required:

  • At least once every two years for certain regulated hazards
  • Whenever workplace processes or conditions change significantly
  • Following a health risk assessment that identifies new or ongoing hazards
