Learners are introduced to the role, rights and responsibilities of a SHE Representative and how these apply within retail settings. The course teaches them to conduct basic workplace inspections, recognise common retail-specific hazards, and participate meaningfully in SHE committee activities. They also learn how to report concerns, support incident prevention, and strengthen communication between employees and management—ensuring safer stores, stockrooms, and customer areas.

• Understanding the purpose of SHE Representatives and key OHS Act requirements
• Election/nomination processes and statutory responsibilities
• Retail-specific hazards: slips, trips, manual handling, equipment use, and customer-related risks
• Reporting hazards, raising issues, and escalating concerns appropriately
• Participating in SHE committees and supporting safety communication
• Basic principles of incident causes and prevention in retail environments
• Identifying additional information and training needs for improved safety performance
