Hayden Nunn’s Journey in Safety Coordination

Hayden Nunn: Leading the Charge in Workplace Safety Coordination

As part of our ongoing series profiling students who are studying SAMTRAC courses at NOSA College, we had the opportunity to sit down with Hayden Nunn, a 56-year-old Acting Safety Coordinator from Pinetown. With extensive experience in production and a passion for prioritising safety, Hayden is now pursuing a permanent role in safety coordination and further qualifications in Safety Auditing.

Hayden’s journey into safety coordination began when his company, Pailpac, a large format packaging manufacturer, chose NOSA College as their service provider for safety training. Recognising SafetyCloud’s reputation as a leading provider of safety training in South Africa, Hayden was eager to take advantage of the opportunity to study further in safety.

“I’ve been more involved in production for most of the years that I’ve been working,” Hayden explains. “The truth is, I’ve always been on top of safety; safety has always come easy to me. So, as soon as there was an opportunity for me to study further in safety, I grabbed it.”

Currently enrolled in the SAMTRAC course, Hayden is impressed with the engaging classes and cooperative facilitators. Despite the workload being stressful, Hayden appreciates the opportunity to ask questions and clarify doubts, which has contributed to a positive learning experience.

“SafetyCloud does come highly recommended,” Hayden notes. “All companies that I’m aware of accept SafetyCloud as being the best in South Africa at the moment. The classes are run very well. I am somebody who likes participating and asking questions. I like to engage. Our lecturers are cooperative and forthcoming with teaching and engaging us.”

Hayden’s long-term plans include continuing to study further in Safety Auditing, which will enable him to consult for other branches within his organisation. By internalising safety auditing, Hayden hopes to give his company a competitive edge while advancing his own career.

“After this course, the plan is that, hopefully, I can also continue to study further on the auditing side of safety,” Hayden says. “That will give us an advantage, where we would normally out source auditing, we can hopefully make it all internal. The hope is to be able to do it for other branches within our group.”

With his experience, passion for safety, and commitment to furthering his education, Hayden Nunn is a shining example of an individual who is dedicated to making a positive impact in his organisation and beyond.
