Staff at NOSA’s head office spent time with the babies of The Baby House Westville on Mandela Day 2019.

Situated in the suburb of Westville, Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Baby House Westville is a safe house for abandoned babies. It is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO:153-305) and Public Benefit Organization that cares for and nurtures babies until they are adopted into loving homes. Babies are placed at the safe house by a registered social worker who either works with mothers before the birth or is contacted by the relevant authorities in the case of abandonment. The babies arrive within days or sometimes hours after birth. The safe house can accommodate up to six babies at a time.

The Baby House Westville requires ongoing fundraising as government childcare grants are sporadic and corporate sponsorships difficult to obtain. Community awareness and donations allow the home to continue to exist and care for one of the most valuable but vulnerable sectors of our society.
